All About Tetabokit
The most extraordinary character! ✨
My Story 📖
Tetabokit is a character created by the young Guadeloupean illustrator "El Dessdan" to honor the culinary heritage of our island.
Tetabokit joins a landscape of characters, often Eurocentric, which leaves little room for diversity.
Young and older Caribbean people will be able to easily identify with this character who evolves in an environment familiar to them.

The Bokit: a Guadeloupean Delight 🌴
What is a Bokit? 🥖
The bokit is an iconic Guadeloupean sandwich, made of fried and puffed bread, filled with various savory preparations.
The Origins 🏝️
The bokit draws its roots from the Amerindian tradition of the Caribbean. Long before the arrival of Europeans, indigenous peoples were already preparing fried breads, an ancestral technique passed down from generation to generation.
The word "bokit" itself has undergone a fascinating linguistic evolution. Originally, people spoke of "dankit" or "johnny cake", terms that transformed over time to become the "bokit" we know today.
Its name would also come from the English "bucket", referring to the container in which the bread was fried in boiling oil.
Originally a popular and economical dish sold in markets, the bokit has become over the centuries an identity symbol and a must of Guadeloupean gastronomy, blending Amerindian heritage and Creole influence!
Popular Fillings 🍖
💡 The secret? The bread must be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside!
